Today I accompanied Stratford Girls' Grammar School Chamber Choir to Music For Youth's regional festival in Birmingham. The theme of this regional was inclusivity and highlighting the joy of music-making.
Stratford girls performed 3 songs within these themes:
‘Can You Hear Me?’ - Bob Chilcott
‘Sing Gently’ – Eric Whitacre
‘Sing’ – Pentatonix
They received amazing feedback, which particularly praised their strong diction, dynamics, and phrasing. Specific quotes from the music mentors (aka the judges!): ‘A powerhouse choir’, ‘blisteringly accurate’, ‘beautiful’, ‘incredible’, ‘what a sound’.
The word of the day was ‘positivity’. We all enjoyed performances by:
Lily B & Ashleigh (supported by the Amber Trust)
Solihull Music
Chapman Shum
Rubix Cube (rock band)
I think Rubix Cube, in particular, have a new fan club in the Stratford Girls' choir, who particularly loved their performances of “Pink Pony Club” and “Defying Gravity.”
